Four killed in Kpone Kokompe farms fire outbreak
Accra, Ghana - A devastating fire swept through Kpone Kokompe farms in the Greater Accra Region, claiming the lives of four individuals, including a toddler and two minors.
The victims, identified as a 27-year-old man, 14-year-old girl, 11-year-old boy, and two-year-old baby, were burnt beyond recognition.
The Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly to a distressed call at 11:28pm on Friday, arriving at the scene at 11:47pm. Despite reinforcement efforts, the fire razed 10 wooden structures before being extinguished at 12:55am.
Divisional Officer Matthew Kumi attributed the rapid spread of the fire to the presence of motorcycles, gas, and other flammable items.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Survivors, including Gideon Bolgla and Augustine Hevi, lost all belongings and are appealing for aid from stakeholders, including the Member of Parliament, Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly, and National Disaster Management Organisation.
The incident highlights the need for fire safety measures, with DOIII Kumi urging residents to install smoke detectors, fire alarms, and extinguishers.
“These will help raise awareness or control the fire to avoid causalities,” he said, cautioning against illegal connections as it might trigger fire.
“The Fire Service is always available, so do not hesitate to call or reach out to us using the emergency numbers 112 and 192 when there is an emergency," he said.
