Euro 2024: Spain knocks France out and into the finals
By Florence Kyei
Lamine Yamal scored a wondergoal for Spain to become the youngest scorer in men's European Championship history, helping Spain defeat tournament favourites France and advance to the Euro 2024 final.
The 16-year-old struck a fantastic effort into the top corner from outside the penalty area to equalise following Randal Kolo Muani's early opener in the Munich semi-final. Dani Olmo then scored for Spain seconds later, when his shot rebounded off France defender Jules Kounde.
Spain attempted to keep France in a tight second half with little chances, but captain Kylian Mbappe blasted over the bar after finally gaining a sight of goal, and manager Didier Deschamps' aggressive changes did not assist to force a late equalizer as the La Roja held on.
Spain has advanced to its first men's final since winning the Euros in 2012, and will meet either England or the Netherlands in Berlin on Sunday.
Gareth Southgate's side face the Dutch tomorrow night, hoping to make it back-to-back Euro championships after losing to Italy three years ago.
