Election 2024: The law will deal with anyone who tries to incite violence - NAPO

Ahafo Region, Ghana - September 11, 2024 - Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has issued a stern warning to individuals planning to engage in violent activities during the upcoming 2024 elections.

While on a campaign tour in the Asunafo South Constituency, Dr. Opoku Prempeh assured that the NPP will not condone any form of violence and that those found culpable will face the full force of the law.

Speaking at Ayomso in the Asunafo North Constituency during his campaign tour, Dr. Opoku Prempeh said, “Those who typically incite the youth to cause violence are often those who have their families residing abroad. This election is about ideas and advocating for national development, not about violence.”

“The law will deal with anyone who tries to make the region notorious for violence due to their own selfish interests,” he added.

Addressing a gathering of Chiefs, Clergy, and supporters at Noberkaw, Dr. Opoku Prempeh emphasized the NPP's commitment to peaceful and credible elections.

He stressed that political affiliations will not protect individuals who engage in violent acts from prosecution, and that the rule of law will be upheld at all costs.

The warning comes on the heels of a recent clash between supporters of the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Kwapong, which threatened to escalate into full-blown violence.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh's comments are seen as a timely intervention to calm tensions and reassure Ghanaians of the NPP's dedication to a peaceful electoral process.

Frank Aduse Poku, the NPP's Parliamentary Candidate for Asunafo South, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the NPP government's developmental achievements in the constituency and urging supporters to vote for the continuation of these efforts.
