Catholic Community embarks on peaceful protest against galamsey

Accra, Ghana - October 11, 2024 - The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, in collaboration with the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious in Ghana, embarked on an Environmental Prayer Walk Against Galamsey.

The peaceful protest began with a "Service of Preparation" at the Holy Spirit Cathedral, drawing in Catholic worshipers, environmental activists, and concerned citizens.

Rev. Father Godwin Fiawoyi, SVD, addressed the congregation, urging divine intervention in the fight against environmental degradation and encouraging participants to remain steadfast in their advocacy for Ghana's natural resources.

The protesters then took to the streets, marching peacefully through designated routes guided by police officers.

Demonstrators, including members of the "Crusaders Against Galamsey" group, held placards with powerful messages, emphasizing the need to protect Ghana's environment.

The protest aimed to bring attention to the devastating effects of galamsey and promote sustainable practices.
