Bernard Mornah slams EC as 'very lazy' over disqualification
Accra, Ghana - Bernard Mornah, flagbearer of the People's National Convention (PNC), has unleashed a blistering critique on Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC), labeling it "very lazy" after his disqualification and that of 10 other presidential hopefuls.
This scathing attack highlights growing concerns over the EC's transparency and fairness, sparking frustration among disqualified aspirants and their supporters.
Mornah, one of 11 barred from the upcoming elections, expressed deep disappointment on JoyNews' Newsfile program on September 28, 2024, citing the EC's poor management of the nomination process.
He argued that the Commission failed to adequately inform aspirants about application requirements, leading to disqualifications that underscore the EC's lack of diligence.
The PNC flagbearer emphasized that the EC's actions undermine the electoral process, discouraging potential candidates.
"This is a very lazy Electoral Commission. The EC made mistakes in its own nomination forms talking about candidate's personal records which speak about names, voter ID numbers and polling stations, and it says six instead of sex. Is the Electoral Commission disqualified from making errors? Are they not intending to write sex but ended up writing six? Who disqualifies somebody on the basis of trivialities and tangential issues," he stated.
He urged the EC to adopt a more proactive, inclusive approach, fostering support for all aspirants rather than imposing punitive measures that compromise the democratic process's integrity.
Mornah's criticism comes amid his lawsuit against the EC, challenging his disqualification from the 2024 presidential race.
The EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, stated that Mornah and 10 others were disqualified for failing to correct errors on their nomination forms.
