Ambulance Trial: "This is a victory for the rule of Law " - Mahama on Ato Forson's acquittal

The NDC's flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has praised the Court of Appeal's acquittal and discharge of former deputy Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, in the ambulance trial as a triumph for the rule of law.

The Minority Leader and  and Richard Jakpa, both on trial for the case, were acquitted and released on Tuesday, July 30.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, John Mahama expressed his happiness with the court's ruling, saying it supported his long-held belief that the case was a sort of political persecution.

He promised to select a fair-minded Minister of Justice if elected.

According to the former president,  his Minister of Justice appointee would collaborate with the legal community and the Judicial Council to adopt measures aimed at creating a truly independent Judiciary.

"Good news from the Court of Appeal, acquitting and discharging former deputy finance minister Cassiel Ato Forson in the ambulance case. This is a victory for the rule of law and confirms my long-held view that the whole case was political persecution.

“This appeal was made some time ago when they filed a no-case petition before the court and the High Court rejected it so they went to appeal. So, it came as quite a pleasant surprise."
