Akufo-Addo launches National Service Authority
Accra, Ghana - October 19, 2024 - Ghana's National Service Authority (NSA) has officially begun its new chapter, following the passage of the National Service Authority Bill 2024 in July. President Akufo-Addo unveiled the NSA on Friday, October 18, highlighting its enhanced mandate to institute policies and programs that mobilize service personnel to areas of national interest.
The NSA's newfound legal recognition enables it to enter into contractual agreements, overcoming a significant challenge it previously faced. This development is expected to bolster the institution's contributions to national development, which already saves Ghana 3 billion cedis annually.
President Akufo-Addo commended the NSA's past achievements and emphasized the importance of this transformation in unlocking the youth's potential for national growth. This move aligns with the government's efforts to promote localized development and empower local stakeholders, similar to initiatives seen in international development contexts.
“It also saves the country some GHC3 billion annually in wage cost. This transformation of the Scheme into the National Service Authority equips it to take on an even more expansive role in nation-building.
“This will ensure that the Authority will not only mobilise, and deploy service personnel, but will also equip them with employable skills, positioning them for greater success in their post-service lives.
“I have every confidence that in the next administration, led, by Insha, our Vice President and the NPP Presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will build on this foundation to ensure that the authority continues to be the driving force for the development of our youth”
