Africa's Natural Resource Management is a 'tragedy' - Mike Oquaye
Kumasi, Ghana - Former Ghanaian Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, has sounded the alarm on Africa's mismanagement of its natural resources, labeling the situation as "tragic."
Speaking at the Christian Service University's 50th-anniversary celebration in Kumasi, Prof. Oquaye emphasized the continent's failure to leverage its abundant resources for sustainable development.
Africa is richly endowed with natural resources, including diamonds, gold, iron, cobalt, uranium, copper, bauxite, silver, petroleum, and natural gas.
However, the continent's inability to harness these resources effectively has hindered its progress. Prof. Oquaye specifically highlighted the underutilization of solar energy, despite Africa's vast potential for renewable energy.
“The way Africa is dealing with natural resources which God has endowed us with is very tragic,” Prof Oquaye said, adding, “The BBC reported recently that solar energy production in the Netherlands is higher than the whole of Africa put together and Africa is the home of the sun. God will not be happy with this,” he stated.
