AFCON 2025Q: There is no advantage in playing the game in Morocco- Partey
Accra, Ghana - September 9, 2024 - Ahead of Monday's 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Niger, Black Stars captain Thomas Partey has downplayed the perceived advantage of playing on neutral ground.
The fixture, moved to Berkane, Morocco, due to CAF declaring Niger's facilities unplayable, has led many to believe that Ghana will benefit from avoiding intimidation.
However, Partey remains unconvinced, insisting that the neutral venue will not provide an edge for his team.
"I don't think there is any advantage there [in playing the game in Morocco]," Partey said in an interview with SuperSport. "It all depends on how we approach the game.
"If we go with the approach to win, we go there to win because there are a lot of good players now and you can't underrate anyone."
Partey added that he has full belief in the current project and expects to hit top gear soon.
"I believe in all the players that come in the team; young and the quality that they have," he added. "I think all they need is our support and the support of every Ghanaian. I see from training the quality and I am really sure it's going to be massive."
The Ghanaian midfielder's comments come as the Black Stars prepare to face Niger in their second AFCON qualifier on Monday, September 9, 2024 with coach Otto Addo's side seeking to build on their previous performance.
