Ghana's 4x100m Relay Team Qualifies for World Athletics Championship Final

Ghana's men's 4x100m relay team made history at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, shattering the national record to qualify for the final. The quartet of Ibrahim Fuseini, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu stormed to victory in Heat 2 with a stunning time of 37.79 seconds, eclipsing the previous record of 38.07 seconds set at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene.

The team's impressive performance was fueled by exceptional individual efforts. Benjamin Azamati delivered a blistering 8.74 seconds on the back straight, the fastest split by any athlete in the round, propelling Ghana into contention alongside the Netherlands and Japan.

Ibrahim Fuseini set the stage with a composed opening leg, clocking 10.57 seconds to hand over the baton cleanly. Joseph Paul Amoah maintained the momentum with a smooth bend-running and strong acceleration, splitting 9.41 seconds before exchanging for the anchor, Abdul-Rasheed Saminu.

Saminu, who had already impressed in the 100m event earlier in the championships, sealed Ghana's qualification with a scintillating 9.07 seconds down the home straight. The team's record-breaking time not only secured their spot in the final but also positioned them as strong contenders for a medal. Ghana will now focus on the final, scheduled for September 21, 2025, where they will face stiff competition from the world's top sprinters.
