70-year-old farmer Nana Owusu Achiaw Brempong wins National Best Farmer award

Accra, Ghana - Nov 9, 2024 - Nana Owusu Achiaw Brempong, a 70-year-old farmer from Sekyere Central district in the Ashanti Region, has been crowned the 2024 National Best Farmer.

With an impressive 50-year farming career under his belt, Nana Owusu has built a legacy that inspires others in the agricultural sector. 

His North American Farms employs 168 workers, cultivating diverse crops including cocoa and cashew, contributing significantly to Ghana's agricultural sector .

As part of his award, Nana Owusu received one million Ghana cedis, recognizing his outstanding contributions to agriculture and the economy. In his acceptance speech, he emphasized the need for increased efforts towards food security, urging the government and private sector to collaborate in creating a more resilient agricultural system ¹.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo attended the event, announcing an increase in the producer price of cocoa from GH₵3,000 to GH₵3,100 per 64kg bag, a 0.03% rise from the rate set in September for the 2024/2025 crop season. This adjustment aims to align cocoa prices with current market conditions and support farmers' incomes amid challenging conditions.
