25 Private Schools Added to Free SHS for the First Time - View Full List

Accra, Ghana - 16 June, 2025 - The Ministry of Education has announced the inclusion of 25 private senior high schools in the Free SHS program, marking a major milestone in the country's efforts to expand access to second-cycle education. For the first time, these private institutions will be part of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), giving students more options to choose from.

The selected schools, categorized under Category E, are co-educational day schools spread across all 16 regions, offering a range of academic programs. This move is expected to not only increase access to quality education but also alleviate the pressure on public senior high schools.

To accommodate this change, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has extended the deadline for the school selection process to June 25, 2025. This will give students ample time to make informed decisions about their educational future.

The list of approved private schools includes institutions from various regions, such as Cosmos Senior High School in Ejura, Joy Standard College in Kumasi, and Ideal College in East Legon, among others. These schools will offer students a range of programs, including General Arts, General Science, Business, and Technical courses.

The Ministry of Education believes that this initiative will go a long way in promoting education in Ghana, providing students with more opportunities to pursue their academic interests.
