2025 Hajj: Two Ghanaian Pilgrims Die in Mecca, Five Repatriated Over Visa Issues

Mecca, Saudi Arabia - 25 May, 2025 - Two Ghanaian pilgrims have lost their lives during this year's Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, according to the Ghana Hajj Taskforce.
The Taskforce also reported that five pilgrims were repatriated due to issues with their visas.
Alhaji A.B.A. Fuseini, Head of Corporate Affairs at the Hajj Taskforce, clarified that the repatriation was not a result of any wrongdoing by the pilgrims, but rather an administrative error.
According to him, the Taskforce is working diligently to resolve the visa issues and facilitate the return of the affected pilgrims to Mecca.
“Some said they were deported, but we choose to use the word ‘repatriated.’ Deportation connotes some criminality, but these people who have returned have not committed any crime. It was an error in the issuance of their visa.
“Some attempts to realign the visas resulted in some unfortunate mistakes where their visas were withdrawn. I can assure you that we are making every effort to get them to go back,
Approximately 6,000 Ghanaians traveled to Saudi Arabia for the 2025 Hajj.
The Hajj pilgrimage is a significant religious event that attracts millions of Muslims from around the world every year.
