The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has outlined eight key demands in a protest petition to the government, citing increasing political persecution, suppression of free speech, and abuse of state power under the current administration. The petition was presented during the party's "Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna" demonstration in Accra on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

The Eight Demands:

- End Political Harassment: The NPP is calling on President Mahama and the NDC government to immediately halt the targeted persecution of its members and supporters.

- Protect Free Speech and Press Freedom: The party demands an end to the criminalization of speech and growing attacks on journalists, bloggers, and social media users who express dissenting views.

- Clarify Arrest of NDC Chairman: The NPP has requested a full briefing from the police on the reported arrest of NDC Chairman Sofo Azorka, including details of charges, bail conditions, and court proceedings.

- Stop Midnight Arrests: The petition condemns "Rambo-styled midnight arrests" of opposition figures, calling the practice dangerous and unlawful.

- Arrest NDC Communicator for Threats: The party demands the immediate arrest and prosecution of NDC's Abuakwa North Constituency Communications Officer, Abdul Wahab Amadu, for allegedly threatening the lives of NPP leaders.

- Stop Weaponizing State Institutions: The NPP accuses the government of using state agencies, including security services, to intimidate political opponents and suppress dissent.

- Judiciary Must Stand Up for Justice: The party urges the judiciary to uphold its independence, enforce equality before the law, and resist executive interference in the delivery of justice.

- Call to Civil Society and Religious Leaders: The NPP appeals to Ghanaians, including civil society organizations, media houses, and traditional and religious leaders, to rise in defense of democracy and speak out against political repression.

The NPP emphasizes its dedication to the rule of law and constitutional freedoms, stating that it remains resolute in its commitment to uphold the rule of law, protect the constitutional and human rights of citizens, and restore public trust in democratic institutions. The party's protest aims to highlight the government's alleged selective application of justice and demand fairness in the treatment of opposition figures.
