W/R: Police Rescue 12-Year-Old Boy After Viral Video Shows Brutal Assault
New Ankasa, Western Region - 24 June, 2025 - The Ghana Police Service has successfully rescued a 12-year-old boy who was subjected to severe physical abuse in a disturbing incident that sparked widespread outrage. The boy, who was allegedly accused of stealing GH₵200, was viciously beaten by two men in a video that went viral on social media.
According to the Western Regional Police Command, the incident occurred at New Ankasa, a community near Elubo in the Western Region. The suspects, 58-year-old Issah Morro and 27-year-old Suleman Abdul Rashid, have been arrested and are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
The police launched a swift investigation after the video circulated on social media, triggering widespread condemnation and calls for justice. Officers from the Half Assini Division tracked down the suspects and rescued the boy, who was found tied with a nylon rope and hanging from the roof of a building.
The victim has since received medical attention and has been reunited with his father.
Superintendent Olivia E. T. Adiku, Head of the Public Affairs Unit in the Western Region, in a statement, assured the public of the police's commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and urged citizens to report any suspicious or harmful behavior to the nearest police station.
The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that those responsible for such violent acts face the full rigor of the law. The case is currently under investigation, and the police are working to gather more evidence to prosecute the suspects.
