'We Pray That Your Holy Spirit Will Comfort Them':Otabil's Emotional Prayer After Tragic Helicopter Crash
Accra, Ghana – 7 August, 2025 – A grieving moment of intercession was held at the 2025 Greater Works Conference in Accra, led by renowned pastor and founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil. Thousands of worshippers gathered to pray for the families of the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6.
On day three of the 2025 Greater Works Conference in Accra, Dr. Otabil led thousands of worshippers in a moment of intercession, asking God to comfort the bereaved families.
Dr. Otabil's prayer sought divine intervention to ease the pain of loss and bring solace to the affected families. "Father, we thank you, for you are the God of all comfort... we pray that your Holy Spirit will comfort them," he prayed, asking the Holy Spirit to enter homes shattered by grief and breathe hope into lives devastated by the loss.
The helicopter crash claimed the lives of prominent figures, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. Other victims included Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong, and former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, as well as three crew members from the Ghana Air Force.
The government has directed that national flags be flown at half-mast, and tributes continue to pour in from across Ghana and beyond. Dr. Otabil's prayer served as a moment of solace for the nation, as people come together to mourn the loss of the eight individuals.
