WAEC to Petition Court of Appeal Over Withheld WASSCE Results

Accra, Ghana - 21 Feb, 2025 - The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is taking steps to challenge a recent court decision regarding withheld examination results.
Despite the setback, the council has reaffirmed their committment to releasing the outstanding results by the end of February.
In an interview with Citi News, Head of Legal Affairs at WAEC, Rev. Victor Brew explained that the council will petition the court of appeal to reconsider its decision. This move, according to him, is part of the council's efforts to ensure that the examination results are handled in a fair and transparent manner.
“We are going to repeat the stay of execution application at the court of appeal in line with what is established procedure in court matters.
“As for 28th [February], it is for the generality of all outstanding results and just to clarify these are just a portion of all the outstanding results. So even as these 10,000 candidates went to court, we are still working and so 28th is a date to say that all results finally would have been worked on.
“Those that are exonerated, they would have their results uncanceled. Those that will be found culpable will have their results canceled. Perhaps the only group of people will be those students who took us to court, and we have to respect the court procedure,'' he added.
The release of the withheld results is expected to bring relief to thousands of students who have been waiting anxiously for their examination outcomes.
However, Rev. maintained that, the results of students who are currently involved in legal proceedings against WAEC will not be released until the matter is resolved.
