''U.S. Visa is a Privilege, not a Right" - U.S Embassy in Ghana
Accra, Ghana - 24 June, 2025 - The United States Embassy in Ghana has issued a stern warning to American visa holders, reminding them that their visas can be revoked at any time if they break US laws.
In a Facebook post on Monday June 23, , the embassy emphasized that having a US visa is a privilege, not a right, and that visa holders must comply with all US federal, state, and local laws.
''Breaking U.S. laws can have serious consequences for your visa. If you are arrested or violate any laws, your visa may be revoked, you may be deported, and you could be ineligible for future U.S. visas. Follow the rules and don’t jeopardize your travel. A U.S. visa is a privilege, not a right,'' the post read.
The embassy's warning comes amid increasing scrutiny on visa compliance and immigration enforcement in the US.
According to US immigration policy, visa holders who are convicted of crimes, including minor offenses, risk immediate deportation and a potential lifetime ban from re-entry.
The embassy urged visa holders to obey all US laws, including traffic and immigration regulations, and warned that violating these laws can have serious consequences, including visa revocation, deportation, and ineligibility for future US visas.
