U-20 AFCON: Black Satellites Soar to Quarterfinals with 1-0 Win Over CAR

Cairo, Egypt - 08 May, 2025 - Ghana's Under-20 national team, the Black Satellites, secured a crucial 1-0 win over the Central African Republic (CAR) in their final group match at the TotalEnergies CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations, held at the Suez Canal Stadium.
Joseph Opoku's decisive goal in the 84th minute sealed the victory, sending Ghana through to the quarterfinals as Group C winners.
Despite dominating possession, Ghana struggled to break down CAR's defense, with Aziz Issah and Andrews Adjabeng failing to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
However, Issah's creative playmaking was instrumental in Ghana's attack, earning him the Man of the Match award. His performance showcased his technical skill and confidence, making him a key player for Ghana's future matches.
The win marked Ghana's second victory in the tournament, and they finished the group stage with seven points from three matches. Senegal joined Ghana in the last eight after defeating DR Congo 2-0 in the other group fixture.
CAR's campaign ended with just one point from three matches, failing to replicate their quarterfinal run in 2021.
Ghana's coach, Desmond Ofei, praised his team's patience and tactical discipline, stating that the result was a reward for their maturity and discipline on the field.
The Black Satellites are now set to compete in the knockout stage, aiming to lift a record-extending fifth U20 AFCON title.
