The Clerk is aligned with NDC and must resign - Afenyo Markin

Accra, Ghana -  31 Jan, 2025 - The Minority caucus in Ghana's Parliament has sparked a fresh controversy, calling for the immediate resignation of the Clerk of the Appointments Committee.

The opposition MPs accuse the clerk of blatant bias and unprofessionalism, alleging that she has compromised the integrity of the vetting process.

According to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the clerk's actions have created a toxic atmosphere, undermining trust in the committee's work. The Minority caucus claims that the clerk has deliberately excluded them from key aspects of the vetting process, sparking concerns about transparency and fairness.

The opposition MPs have vowed to take formal action, writing to the Clerk of Parliament to demand the clerk's removal from the Appointments Committee. The controversy has added to the growing tensions in Parliament, raising concerns about the integrity of Ghana's democratic institutions.

“The clerk of the committee has made it clear that she is aligned with the NDC. We will formally write to the Clerk of Parliament to demand her removal from the Appointments Committee. She must either resign as a parliamentary staff or immediately change her approach,” he stated.
