TEWU-TUC set to embark on nationwide strike today over unaddressed concerns
Accra, Ghana - Nov 18, 2024 - The Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU-TUC) is set to embark on a nationwide strike today, Monday, November 18, 2024, in protest of the government's failure to address long-standing concerns regarding their conditions of service.
This move follows years of frustrating delays in revising, signing, and implementing conditions of service for workers under various institutions, including the Ghana Education Service, Ghana Library Authority, Museums and Monuments Board, and Public Technical and Traditional Universities.
In response to the strike notice, the National Labour Commission (NLC) has summoned TEWU-TUC, along with relevant stakeholders, to a meeting scheduled for Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
The NLC aims to resolve the dispute and prevent further disruptions.
This development is not the first time TEWU-TUC has taken industrial action. Earlier in January 2024, the union joined the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) in a nationwide strike over unpaid Tier 2 pension contributions and other welfare concerns.
