Stanbic Bank Ghana Pledges to Invest in Grassroots Sports Development

Accra, Ghana - 09 March, 2025 - Ghana's sports sector is set to receive a significant boost, following a pledge by Stanbic Bank Ghana to partner with key stakeholders to revitalize the industry.

The bank's Managing Director, Kwamina Asomaning, made the announcement during a courtesy call by the leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), led by President Kwabena Yeboah.

Mr. Asomaning emphasized the importance of sports in promoting national unity, development, and pride, and expressed his commitment to supporting the growth and development of sports in Ghana.

"At Stanbic Bank Ghana, we value the role that sports play in promoting social cohesion, healthy lifestyles, and economic development," Kwamina Asomaning explained. "As such, we have made sports development a key component of our CSR initiatives, and we are committed to supporting the growth and development of sports in Ghana."

"Sports has the power to inspire, to motivate, and to unite," Kwamina "At Stanbic Bank Ghana, we believe that by investing in sports, we can help build a more cohesive and vibrant society,'' Mr. Asomaning added.

As part of its commitment, Stanbic Bank Ghana is considering investing in talent identification and development at the grassroots level, including supporting 2nd cycle school sports.

"We are exploring opportunities to support 2nd cycle school sports, recognizing that this is a critical stage in the development of young athletes," Kwamina Asomaning stated. "By investing in school sports, we can help identify and nurture talent, providing young athletes with the support and resources they need to succeed."

The bank has a long-standing partnership with SWAG, demonstrating its commitment to recognizing and rewarding excellence in Ghanaian sports.

The partnership is expected to yield significant benefits for Ghana's sports sector, including increased investment, improved infrastructure, and enhanced opportunities for Ghanaian athletes to compete at the national and international levels.

"We believe that together, we can achieve great things and restore Ghana's pride in sports," Kwamina Asomaning concluded.

Mawuko Afadzinu, Stanbic Bank Ghana's Head of Marketing and Communications, on his part, hailed the partnership with SWAG as a major catalyst for promoting sports in Ghana.

He noted that the collaboration would not only enhance the sports brand but also rekindle enthusiasm among Ghanaians.

''Our partnership with SWAG is a significant boost to the promotion of sports in Ghana. It's a partnership that will help to promote the sports brand and ignite passions among Ghanaians."

Afadzinu also highlighted the bank's strategic investment in prominent Ghanaian sports events, such as the 2008 Cup of Nations and the recent African Games, which showcased top athletes from across Africa competing in various disciplines.

Meanwhile, SWAG President Kwabena Yeboah, accompanied by senior officials including Charles Osei Asibey, Kenneth Odeng Adade, Mavis Amanor, and Ohene Bampoe Brenya, commended Stanbic Bank for its investment in local sports development, praising their commitment to promoting Ghanaian sports. 

He also expressed gratitude for the bank's long-standing partnership with SWAG, highlighting the value of their enduring relationship.
