Seidu Agongo and Alive Foundation Donates GHS50K to Ghana Medical Trust Fund

Accra, Ghana - 16 May, 2025 - Ghanaian philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo has made a significant donation of GHS500,000 to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, supporting efforts to make dialysis treatment more accessible to those in need.

Mr. Agongo, founder and owner of Alive Industries, highlighted the financial burden of dialysis treatment in Ghana, where a single session costs around GHS700, and patients typically require three sessions per week. This translates to a monthly cost of approximately GHS8,400 (around $800), a significant strain for many patients.

In a developing country where people hardly get food to eat, this is a significant strain. That is why I see this programme as one that truly resonates with the grassroots and deserves all our support,'' he said.

The businessman emphasized the link between health and economic productivity, stating that his business flourishes in a healthy environment.

As a businessman, my business only flourishes in a healthy environment. We all need access to proper healthcare.”

“This is not for his own sake, but for the citizens of Ghana''.

He also commended the Minister of Health and former President John Dramani Mahama for their commitment to the Medical Trust Fund initiative.

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Minta Akandoh lauded Alive Industries for the donation, describing it as a gesture of national solidarity rather than just corporate social responsibility.

“We are so grateful and we know this is not just corporate social responsibility. It’s a true gesture of national solidarity.”

The Ghana Medical Trust Fund aims to support citizens unable to afford critical medical services, including long-term treatments like dialysis.

The government has appealed for more individuals and institutions to support the fund, strengthening Ghana's healthcare system. Mr. Agongo's donation is expected to provide relief to many patients struggling with dialysis costs.
