PTAs to Make a Comeback in Public Schools - Haruna Iddrisu

Accra, Ghana - 17 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced a significant policy shift in the country's education sector, revealing plans to reintroduce Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) into the management framework of public schools.
During a public forum, Mr. Iddrisu emphasized the crucial role PTA plays in supporting public schools, addressing key challenges such as infrastructure development, student discipline, and academic performance.
“I am particularly happy to announce that PTAs will be introduced back into the management of education under the presidency of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, to work for parents and teachers to work together to improve learning outcomes in our educational institutions. And for PTAs to support our educational institutions to produce quality human capital for the country,” he stated.
The reintroduction of PTAs is part of a broader effort to create a more inclusive education system in Ghana. The government aims to ensure that all stakeholders are involved in the decision-making process, ultimately leading to improved student outcomes.
The decision is expected to take effect in the coming months, with schools set to formally reintegrate PTAs into their administrative frameworks.
