No Plans to Move - WAEC debunks relocation rumours

A recent flurry of speculation surrounding the potential relocation of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) headquarters from Ghana to Nigeria has been firmly denied by the examination body.

Reports had suggested that WAEC's financial struggles, allegedly triggered by the Ghanaian government's unpaid debts, had sparked discussions about a possible relocation. However, WAEC's Head of Public Relations, John Kapi, has categorically refuted these claims, asserting that no such decision has been made.

According to Kapi, the law establishing WAEC clearly stipulates that the headquarters will remain in Accra, Ghana.

“There hasn’t been any discussion in this direction. So the law that established WEAC indicates that the headquarters of the WEAC will be situated here in Accra,'' he stated.

“Ever since there has not been any change to that. So, I guess that we cannot confirm that we have not had any such discussions and there are no plans as such,'' he added.
