My gov't is focused on attracting foreign investments to create jobs for the youth - Mahama

Accra, Ghana - 22 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to step up efforts to attract foreign investment, as the country struggles to create jobs for its rapidly growing youthful population.

President John Dramani Mahama emphasized the need for international cooperation during a meeting with UK Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner.

According to him, to stimulate economic growth, Ghana is looking to strengthen ties with foreign investors, particularly from the UK. The government believes that partnerships with international businesses can help create sustainable job opportunities.

“We have a young, growing population and so one of the major issues that came up strongly in the election was the issue of jobs. And so we are working together to see how we can bring in more investments, especially considering that we are shut out of the international credit markets.

“To bring in more foreign direct investments, to be able to create jobs for young people, is one of the things that we are going to be focusing on, and I believe that with the history of British companies investing in Ghana, we will bring more British companies in to come and partner with us in that objective,'' he added.
