Meet Ghana's Second Family
Ghana's First Female Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang with her children: Kweku Opoku-Agyemang, Kwabena Opoku-Agyemang and Maame Adwoa Opoku-Agyemang.

Accra, Ghana - 10 Jan, 2025 - Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, a trailblazing Ghanaian academic and politician, has achieved impressive milestones beyond her remarkable political career. 

As Ghana's first female Vice President, she has broken barriers and paved the way for future generations.

Her academic achievements are equally impressive, with a Bachelor's degree in English and French from the University of Cape Coast, a Master's degree from York University in Canada, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas, Austin. She has also held various academic positions, including Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, making her the first female Vice-Chancellor of a state university in Ghana.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang's commitment to education and public service has earned her numerous awards and recognition, including honorary degrees from the University of the West Indies and Winston-Salem University.

Her legacy continues to inspire and empower women and girls in Ghana and beyond.

She was married to fellow academic, Edmund Opoku-Agyemang and together they have three children. 

Her children, Kweku, Kwabena, and Maame Adwoa Opoku-Agyemang, have all achieved impressive academic milestones, earning their PhDs in various fields.

Kweku Opoku-Agyemang, the eldest, holds a PhD in Development Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is the founder and CEO of Development Economics X and Machine Learning X,.

 Kwabena Opoku-Agyemang, the second-born, has a PhD in English Literature from West Virginia University and serves as the academic director of the School for International Training Ghana and a senior lecturer at the University of Ghana.

Maame Adwoa Opoku-Agyemang, the youngest, boasts a PhD in Comparative Literature from the University of Toronto and is a member of the Law, Humanities, and Social Sciences faculty at Ashesi University.

This family of academics is an inspiration to many, showcasing the importance of education and hard work. Professor Opoku-Agyemang's legacy extends beyond her political career, as her children continue to make a positive impact in their respective fields.
