Mahama Orders Swift Desilting of Odaw Drain to Avert Flooding

Accra, Ghana - 02 April, 2025 - President John Mahama has instructed contractors to speed up the desilting of the Odaw drain ahead of the rainy season to prevent flooding in Accra.
During his visit to flood-prone areas in the Greater Accra Region, Mahama also took action against Caitec Motors, a private company that had illegally filled a water retention basin at Mallam Junction. He ordered the company to restore the area by removing the silt.
Furthermore, Mahama directed the Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to ensure that Caitec Motors complies with his directive. This includes removing structures built in waterways and desilting the affected area. The President's swift action aims to mitigate the impact of flooding in Accra and protect the city's residents.
