Jerry Ahmed Shaib Re-Elected as GWF President for Second Term

Accra, Ghana - 09 May, 2025 - Hon. Jerry Ahmed Shaib has been re-elected as President of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF), securing 100% of the valid votes cast in the organization's electoral congress held virtually on May 9, 2024.

This landslide victory underscores the overwhelming confidence and trust that delegates have in Shaib's leadership, paving the way for him to steer the federation for another four-year term.

In the elections, other key positions were also filled as Mr. Kenneth Odeng Adade was elected Secretary-General, while Madam Elizabeth Owusu Agyapong was re-elected as Treasurer. The newly elected Board Members include Dr. Christopher Akwesi Adomako, Prof. Jonathan Quartey, and Mr. Benjamin Addy.

The elections were closely monitored by international representatives, including Dr. Ibrahim Abdul, President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, and Dr. Kyle Calhoum Pierce, a representative from the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). Both commended the GWF for a transparent and successful electoral process.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Shaib thanked the Elections Committee for their diligent work and congratulated the newly elected members. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing weightlifting across Ghana and invited stakeholders to unite as the country prepares to host the 2025 African Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in August.

The GWF's new leadership team is expected to drive the sport's development, focusing on grassroots expansion and unity among stakeholders. With Ghana's weightlifting team being a significant contributor to the country's medal haul in international competitions, the new leadership's efforts will be crucial in maintaining this momentum.
