Interpol Issues Red Notice for Ken Ofori-Atta

Accra, Ghana - 06 June, 2025 - Ghana's former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has been listed as "Wanted" on Interpol's official website, a development that follows his failure to appear for questioning by the Office of the Special Prosecutor on June 2, amid ongoing investigations into several high-profile cases.

The Special Prosecutor had initiated steps to place Ofori-Atta on an Interpol Red Notice, which would enable extradition proceedings to return him to Ghana. According to the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, Ofori-Atta is under investigation for his alleged involvement in several high-profile cases, including the Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance, Electricity Company Contract Termination, National Cathedral Project, Ambulance Procurement, and GRA Tax P-Fund Management.

The charge listed against Ofori-Atta on Interpol's website is "using public office for profit." This charge is related to allegations that Ofori-Atta may have engaged in corrupt practices while serving as Finance Minister, compromising the integrity of public office for personal gain.

The cases under investigation involve complex financial transactions and contractual arrangements, raising concerns about transparency and accountability in government dealings. The National Cathedral Project, for instance, has been a subject of controversy, with critics questioning the procurement procedures and financial transactions surrounding the construction of the cathedral.

Similarly, the Ambulance Procurement case has raised concerns about the Ministry of Health's contract with Service Ghana Auto Group Limited, with allegations of irregularities and lack of transparency in the purchase and maintenance of ambulances.

The GRA Tax P-Fund Management case involves allegations of mismanagement of funds from the Tax P-Fund Account, which is meant to support revenue mobilization and tax administration in Ghana.
