Ghana's 8th Parliament set to be dissolved today

Accra, Ghana - 06 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's 8th Parliament is set to dissolve today, January 6, 2025, marking the end of a legislative term that began on January 7, 2021.

This dissolution paves the way for the inauguration of the 9th Parliament, which will commence at midnight with the swearing-in of newly elected Members of Parliament.

The final sitting of the 8th Parliament will be presided over by Speaker Alban Bagbin, where lawmakers will conclude outstanding business and bid farewell to the chamber. Notably, the 8th Parliament has been one of the most closely contested in Ghana's history, with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) holding equal seats,  137-137 with one Independent Member.

As the 9th Parliament begins, it's expected to tackle pressing national issues, including:

- Economic Recovery: Addressing the country's economic challenges and finding ways to stimulate growth.
- Healthcare Reforms: Improving the healthcare system and ensuring access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.
- Electoral Disputes: Resolving disputes stemming from the recent general elections and ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
