Ghanaian Sprinter Ibrahim Fuseni Breaks 10-Second Barrier in Texas
Texas, USA - 30 June, 2025 - Ghanaian sprinter Ibrahim Fuseni has made history by becoming the latest Ghanaian athlete to break the 10-second barrier in the 100m dash. The 22-year-old achieved this feat at the ATX Sprint Classic in Texas, recording a wind-assisted time of 9.85 seconds.
Fuseni's impressive performance saw him finish ahead of American sprinters David Foster and Dapriest Hogans, who clocked 9.95 seconds to secure second and third place, respectively.
Reflecting on his achievement, Fuseni credited a lesson learned from his previous race, where he eased up 30 meters from the finish line. After reviewing footage of the race, he realized he had the potential to break the 10-second barrier if he ran through the line. Determined not to hold back this time, Fuseni pushed through to the finish, securing his record-best time.
“In my last race, I eased up with about 30 meters to go.
“After reviewing the footage, I realized I had the potential to break the 10-second barrier if I ran through the line. So this time, I made sure not to hold back.
"It feels incredible to finally do it—even with the slight tailwind.”
This achievement is a testament to Fuseni's hard work and dedication, particularly after his impressive performance in the 4x100m relay event in Guangzhou, China, where he helped Ghana secure a spot at the World Championships. With his sights set on qualifying for the World Championships in Tokyo later this year, Fuseni aims to join fellow Ghanaian sprinters Abdul Rasheed Saminu and Benjamin Azamati in securing a spot at the global event.
