"Stop the Carnage: Ghana's President Pleads for Gaza Peace"
New York – September 25,2025 - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has strongly condemned the ongoing bombings in Gaza, calling for immediate global action to address the humanitarian crisis. President Mahama emphasized the need for the international community to come together to protect lives, uphold dignity, and ensure justice and peace in the region.
Addressing the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, the President said the world could not continue to look on as civilians were subjected to indiscriminate attacks. “The crimes in Gaza must stop. The indiscriminate bombing of civilians, the denial of humanitarian aid, and the collective punishment of innocent people cannot continue. We cannot continue to measure whose lives matter and whose do not,” he stated.
He accused the global community of failing the people of Gaza through silence and inaction. “The silent complicity of the international community has emboldened those who commit these atrocities. We cannot normalise cruelty. We cannot normalise hatred. We cannot normalise xenophobia and racism,” he stressed.
The President's condemnation comes amid a surge in violence and devastating bombings in Gaza, which have resulted in significant loss of life and displacement of Palestinians. Mahama's sentiments were echoed in a donation ceremony where Ghana presented 40 tons of humanitarian aid, including cocoa products, to the State of Palestine. The aid aims to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people amidst the escalating conflict.
Mahama unequivocally condemned the killings in Gaza and the displacement of Palestinians, emphasizing that such actions are unacceptable and demand global attention. The President urged the international community not to relent in its support for efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region and provide critical humanitarian assistance to those affected.
Mahama reiterated Ghana's support for a two-state solution, believing it to be the most viable path to lasting peace between Israel and Palestine.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza has been described as catastrophic, with thousands of civilians killed, injured, or displaced. World leaders, including those from Arab states, have called for an immediate end to Israel's "genocidal war" on Gaza, emphasizing the need for a ceasefire and humanitarian access.
