Ghana Police Officer suspended amid outrage over viral assault video
Accra, Ghana - Nov 22, 2024 - A Ghanaian police officer, Detective Corporal Baba Amando Ibrahim, has been immediately interdicted from duty over allegations of professional misconduct. The officer, stationed at the Tuna Police Station in the Savannah Region, is accused of assaulting a member of the public, as seen in a viral video circulating online.
The Ghana Police Service has taken swift action to facilitate a thorough investigation into the officer's conduct, in accordance with the Police Service Regulations. The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has personally reached out to the victim's family, assuring them of the Service's support.
In a statement released on Nov 22, the Police noted that the IGP has also directed the Savannah Regional Police Commander to collaborate with the family to address the matter appropriately.
