Ghana, Morocco Scrap Traditional Visa Requirements, Introduces 24-Hour Online Visa Authorization

Accra, Ghana - 06 June, 2025 - Ghanaian travelers to Morocco will soon enjoy a more streamlined and efficient process, thanks to a groundbreaking agreement between Ghana's Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.
As of immediately, Ghanaians will no longer require traditional visas to enter Morocco, instead opting for an online authorization that can be granted within 24 hours without the need for embassy appointments.
This development is expected to significantly boost trade, tourism, and people-to-people engagements between the two nations, particularly with direct flights already in operation and set to increase following the new agreement.
According to Minister Ablakwa, the agreement is a testament to the power of diplomacy in making meaningful impacts on the lives of citizens. "The borders in Africa must not be allowed to divide us — they can be bridges of connectivity," he emphasized in a social media post.
The agreement was reached during Minister Ablakwa's two-day working visit to Morocco, where he engaged in discussions with Minister Bourita on strengthening bilateral relations between Ghana and Morocco.
This move is part of a broader effort to enhance regional integration and cooperation within Africa, aligning with the aspirations of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the African Union's Agenda 2063.
As Ghana and Morocco continue to explore new avenues for collaboration, this visa waiver policy is poised to unlock new opportunities for economic growth, cultural exchange, and people-to-people diplomacy.
With Morocco being a popular destination for tourists and business travelers alike, this development is expected to have a positive impact on Ghana's economy and foster greater understanding between the two nations.
In a congratulatory note, Minister Ablakwa also wished all Muslims a happy Eid celebration, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange and goodwill in diplomatic relations. This agreement serves as a significant milestone in Ghana-Morocco relations, paving the way for increased cooperation and mutual benefit.
