Ghana FA appeals for calm as Black Stars face AFCON rebuild
Ghana's football fraternity is reeling from the Black Stars' shocking failure to qualify for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. The team's dismal performance has sparked widespread disappointment and frustration among fans and stakeholders.
The Black Stars suffered a dismal performance in the AFCON Qualifiers, finishing last in Group F with a mere three points, and will consequently miss out on the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in over two decades.
In an effort to address the crisis, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken swift action, dissolving the Black Stars' management committee and convening an emergency meeting to assess the team's poor showing.
Speaking on Joy Fm, GFA's Communications Director, Henry Asante-Twum, urged fans and the media to remain calm and composed during this challenging period.
According to Asante-Twum The GFA has evaluated the situation, including holding two Executive Council meetings. The meetings resulted in the disbandment of the Black Stars' management committee and an invitation to head coach Otto Addo to present a detailed report on the team's AFCON qualifiers.
He stated again, that the report has been submitted, and copies have been distributed to council members.
"The first thing, the most important thing, is to have calm nerves. When your nerves are calm, you will be able to take important decisions," he stated.
"The first meeting was to look into the entire journey of the Black Stars’ AFCON qualifiers—the six games we played. In that meeting, there was a decision to disband the then [Black Stars] management committee, which was chaired by the vice president of the FA, Mark Addo. After that, the council decided to listen to the [Black Stars head] coach," he explained.
He added, "Otto [Addo] was invited to present his report… and he made his report available. Copies have been made to the various members of the council,'' he added.
