Ghana and Morocco Sign Visa Waiver Deal for All Category of Travelers

Accra, Ghana - 24 March, 2025 - Ghana and Morocco are set to scrap visa requirements for travelers from both countries, thanks to a new agreement announced by Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
This visa waiver agreement will cover all categories of travelers and is expected to be presented to parliaments for ratification soon.
As part of the agreement, Ghana and Morocco have also pledged to strengthen collaboration in key areas like agribusiness, tourism, and security.
In a meeting with the Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Imane Ouaadil, Mr. Ablakwa described the discussions as "fruitful and assuring."
''Morocco and Ghana have also agreed to initiate a visa waiver agreement for all category of travelers from both countries. The agreement will be presented to our Parliaments for ratification shortly. We have both additionally pledged to deepen collaboration in Agribusiness, Tourism and Security'' Ablakwa stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The Moroccan Ambassador took the opportunity to address recent social media rumors, assuring that Ghanaians and Africans living in Morocco are safe.
According to Ablakwa, the ambassador clarified that a widely circulated video claiming to show the massacre of 700 Africans was actually footage of an old border incident from June 24, 2022.
Moroccan and Spanish authorities have since investigated the incident, which resulted in the tragic loss of 23 lives. Thankfully, no Ghanaian casualties were recorded.
''She has assured that Ghanaians and all Africans living in Morocco are safe contrary to the widely circulated videos on social media falsely claiming that some 700 Africans are being massacred. Apparently, the footage in issue is an old 24th June, 2022 border incident which led to the tragic, unfortunate and condemnable loss of 23 lives. That deplorable incident has since been investigated by Moroccan and Spanish authorities. It is worth noting that no Ghanaian casualty was recorded.,'' he wrote.
In a further show of cooperation, the Kingdom of Morocco has decided to double scholarships for Ghanaian students from 90 to 180 beginning this year. This move is expected to foster greater educational exchange and understanding between the two nations.

In a separate meeting, Mr. Ablakwa also hosted the Russian Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Sergei Berdnikov, to discuss a range of issues under their bilateral cooperation.
Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing a foreign policy of positive neutrality, serving as a credible voice for global peace.
