Former SIC MD Rejects Termination, Takes Company to Court

Accra, Ghana - 06 Feb, 2025 - A bitter dispute has erupted at SIC Insurance Company Limited, one of Ghana's leading insurance providers, as its immediate past Managing Director, Ms. Hollistar Duah-Yentumi, has launched a legal challenge against the company and its newly appointed Managing Director, James Agyenim-Boateng.
At the center of the controversy is President John Dramani Mahama's announcement on January 27, naming Mr. Agyenim-Boateng as Ms. Duah-Yentumi's successor. However, Ms. Duah-Yentumi has vehemently rejected the appointment, citing a four-year employment contract that expires on January 1, 2028.
According to court documents, Ms. Duah-Yentumi argues that her employment contract can only be terminated by the company's board of directors or all shareholders at an Annual General Meeting. She claims the sudden termination of her contract and the appointment of Mr. Agyenim-Boateng are unlawful.
The court is being asked to declare the termination of Ms. Duah-Yentumi's contract and the appointment of Mr. Agyenim-Boateng as unlawful. Additionally, Ms. Duah-Yentumi's legal team is seeking payment of her full salary and benefits for the remaining term of her contract.
