EC responds to backlash over limited media access to polling centers - We’re engaging GJA, GIBA for solution

Ghana's Electoral Commission (EC) has stated that it is navigating a delicate balance between ensuring transparency and maintaining order at its constituency and regional collation centres during the upcoming 2024 general elections.

A recent directive limiting media access to these centres has sparked concerns among journalists and media outlets, who argue that it may undermine the principles of transparency and accountability.

In response, the EC announced in a statement released on Nov 27, that it has initiated talks with the Ghana Journalists Association and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) to find a mutually acceptable solution.

“The Commission is keen on ensuring the highest level of transparency in its operations, hence the opening up of all its Constituency, Regional and National Collation Centres to the Media.

“In doing so, the Commission is mindful of the need to ensure an orderly and peaceful process at all the Collation Centres hence the quotas on the number of persons who can access the Collation Centres at any given time,'' parts of the statement read.
