Dispose of Evidence: Farm Worker Describes Feeding Women to Pigs
Adrian De Wet

A South African farm worker, Adrian De Wet, has testified in court about the gruesome disposal of two women's bodies, allegedly fed to pigs to destroy evidence after being shot by their employer, Zachariah Johannes Olivier.

According to De Wet's testimony, Olivier ordered him to throw the bodies of Maria Makgato, 45, and Lucia Ndlovu, 34, into a pig enclosure on a farm near Polokwane in South Africa's northern Limpopo province. De Wet claimed that Olivier's intention was to dispose of the evidence, stating, "When pigs are hungry enough, they'll eat anything."

The court heard that De Wet and Olivier had armed themselves with hunting rifles and waited for trespassers on the night of August 17, 2024. When they heard voices approaching, they opened fire, killing the two women. De Wet testified that Olivier then instructed him to help dispose of the bodies in the pigsty, where eight to ten large pigs were kept.

The following day, another body was found nearby, and De Wet claimed that Olivier, along with William Musora, threw the second body into the pigsty. When they returned a few days later, the pigs had consumed large parts of the women's bodies, leaving behind gruesome evidence.

The case has sparked widespread outrage and racial tensions in South Africa, highlighting the country's ongoing struggles with inequality and violence. The farm's ownership structure, with most private farmland held by the white minority and farm workers being predominantly black and poorly paid, has fueled resentment among the black population.

Olivier and Musora face murder charges, while De Wet has turned state witness and may have his charges dropped. The trial is expected to continue, with cross-examination of the accused set to resume soon.
