Bank of Ghana's New HQ Costs $230m with $31.8m outstanding Left to be Paid to Contractor - Dr Asiama

Accra, Ghana- 06 March, 2025 - Ghana's Bank of Ghana has revealed that its new headquarters project has incurred significant expenses, with approximately $230 million paid out so far.

The project, which is nearing completion, has an outstanding balance of $31.8 million to be settled with the contractor.

According to the Bank's Governor, Dr. Johnson Asiama, the expenses go beyond the core building, with separate contracts awarded for various infrastructural components. These include ICT systems and network infrastructure, integrated electronic systems, and furniture and furnishings, totaling an additional $35.5 million.

Addressing Parliament on March 5, he revealed that the Bank has also paid $48.3 million in taxes and levies related to the construction. Dr. Asiama emphasized that despite the significant expenses, the project is essential for the Bank's operations and will provide a modern and secure facility for its staff and stakeholders.

''Mr Speaker as of February this year a total of $230 million approximately has been paid towards the project with an outstanding balance of $31.8million to be paid to the contractor. Mr Speaker, a total of $48.3million has been paid in taxes and levies that were related to the construction.

“Mr Speaker beyond the core building separate contracts were awarded for other infrastructure. This include ICT systems and network infrastructure which was awarded at a cost of $8.6million integrated electronic systems which was also awarded at a cost of $15.8m and furniture and furnishings that was also awarded at $11.1million.”
