Bank of Ghana Reveals GH¢9.49bn Operating Loss in 2024

Accra, Ghana - 07 June, 2025 - The Bank of Ghana has published its 2024 Financial Statements, revealing a significant operating loss of GH¢9.49 billion for the year. This loss is an improvement from the GH¢13.23 billion recorded in 2023.
According to the report, the operating loss resulted from total operating income of GH¢9.40 billion being outweighed by total operating expenses of GH¢18.89 billion.
Key factors contributing to the loss include the cost of Open Market Operations, which stood at GH¢8.60 billion, and revaluation and exchange differences amounting to GH¢3.49 billion. Notably, the Government's Gold-for-Oil Programme incurred exchange losses of GH¢1.82 billion.
Additionally, currency issue expenses rose to GH¢1.01 billion in 2024 from GH¢0.69 billion in 2023.
Despite the operating loss, the Bank's equity position saw a GH¢4.02 billion enhancement, closing the year at a negative value of GH¢61.32 billion. This development indicates a step towards financial stability, and the Bank remains committed to maintaining price and financial stability while fostering an environment conducive to business growth and individual prosperity.
