AFCON 2025 : Ghana finishes bottom in Group F after Niger defeat

Accra, Ghana - Nov 18, 2024 - Ghana's hopes of qualifying for AFCON 2025 were dashed after a stunning 2-1 loss to Niger at home.

Despite a promising debut from newcomers Terry Yegbe, Nathaniel Adjei, and Isaac Afful, the team struggled to find cohesion, allowing Niger to capitalize on their mistakes.

Niger took the lead in the 29th minute through Sumaila Badamasi's powerful header. Ghana's efforts to equalize were thwarted until Jerry Afriyie's 67th-minute substitute appearance changed the game. Afriyie scored the equalizer, but Niger restored their lead in stoppage time through Daniel Sosah's decisive header.

The defeat marks a historic low for Ghana, finishing bottom of Group F with just three points.

Sudan and Angola secured qualification, leaving Ghana without a single victory in the AFCON qualifying series for the first time in history.
