Times are hard, be patient with your husbands– Prof. Jane Opoku-Agyemang to traders
The National Democratic Congress's (NDC) presidential running mate, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged women, particularly traders, to be patient with spouses who are unable to financially support their businesses.
She made these utterances while on tour in the central region. Speaking to market women in Dunkwa Mfoum, Prof. Opoku Agyemang ascribed the issue to deteriorating economic conditions.
She however acknowledged Ghanaians' struggles, particularly those encountered by traders and small businesses, and assured them that the NDC is aware of these issues.
She stated that the future NDC government intends to establish the Women's Development Bank.
According to her, the project intends to give women easier access to finance without the need for collateral or excessive interest rates.
She emphasized that the Women's Development Bank is just one of several initiatives that the NDC plans to adopt to better the lives of Ghana's women.
According to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, the project will assist more than one million women by providing loans to help them start enterprises and improve their economic prospects and overall well-being.
“Most of the time, when you are unable to get credit from the financial institutions to support your trade, you turn to your husbands for help, but they cannot help because they are either out of jobs or their businesses are not doing well due to the economic difficulties in the country."
“Be patient with them because it is not their fault. The poor economic management has created all this hardship,” she said.
