No Ghanaian has been affected by protests in the UK - Owusu Ankomah claims
Immigrants are currently being targeted by protesters in the UK

Ghana's High Commissioner to the UK, Papa Owusu Ankomah has stated that the current protests have had little impact on the Ghanaian population in the UK.

Protests erupted late last month after an anti-immigrant propaganda campaign sparked indignation following a stabbing incident that killed three children in Southport, northern England.

On Tuesday, the UK's Crown Prosecution Service announced that prosecutors had already charged over 100 persons in connection with the violent rioting.

The rallies purportedly began as anti-immigrant marches but swiftly devolved into chaos and violence.

Speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show, Mr Ankomah assured Ghanaians that no serious harm had befallen any Ghanaian living in the UK as a result of the unrest.

“Except for one incident where a Ghanaian reported being threatened while taking a bus, there have been no reports of any untoward incidents affecting Ghanaians in the UK,” the High Commissioner stated.

Meanwhile, the High Commissioner reports that steps are being made to protect the safety of the Ghanaian community.

Mr Ankomah stated that Ghanaians have been advised to stay indoors at night and avoid places where protests are expected to erupt.

"Even as of this morning, our officers are calling around the country, speaking with the leadership of the Ghanaian communities, asking for updates and urging them to encourage Ghanaians in the UK to try and be indoors by 7 pm,” he added.
