National Sports College introduces three internationally certified courses

The National Sports College (NSC) and the Institute of Fitness Ghana (IFG) have introduced three internationally certified fitness and nutrition training courses at a media event in Accra.

The six-month program overseen by the National Academy of Sports Medicine(NASM) USA, is scheduled to begin on September 9, 2024.

It aims to provide individuals with knowledge and skills in nutrition, fitness among others. 

The new courses include Certificate in Personal Training, Certificate in Nutrition Coaching, and Certificate in Group Fitness Instruction.

Present at the media event was the deputy minister of youth and sports, Evans Bobie Opoku who stated that the newly introduced courses are in line with the ministry's mandate of empowering and supporting a healthy lifestyle among Ghanaians.

According to him, the courses would go a long way toward providing participants with the tools they need to create healthy habits, gain confidence, and nurture a positive self-image. 

He congratulated the organizers for their diligent efforts for the new courses.

“In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to neglect our physical and mental well-being. However, as a nation, we recognize the importance of investing in our health and fitness,”he said.

“Our ministry is committed to creating opportunities for our youth to thrive, and this course is a testament to that commitment,”he added.

The technical director of National Sports College, Collins Kofi Eduafo on his part, reiterated the  institute's mission of teaching and training athletes in areas such as Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise Science, Class Design and Planning. 

He stated that the partnership between the National Sports College and the National Sports Authority has been productive in recent years.

Madam Caterina Sestili, the director of the Institute of Fitness Ghana(IFG), also expressed joy at the opening of a new chapter in Ghana's sports promotion and development.

She stated that the IFG was devoted to setting a new level of excellence in fitness and sports education.

She also praised the Ministry of Youth and Sports for its leadership in promoting educational programs that meet international standards.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Majeed Bawa, Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority, also highlighted the need for federations to enrol their members in such courses.

At the end of the six-month training, participants will be issued a certificate.
