NAPO calls for National Anti-Galamsey Pact
Kumasi, Ghana - Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Vice-Presidential Candidate, has urged political parties, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to sign a "binding national anti-galamsey pact" to combat illegal mining.
Addressing the Association of Methodist Men's Fellowship at KNUST, Dr. Prempeh called on religious leaders to lead the development of the pact, outlining a comprehensive roadmap to tackle the galamsey menace.
He questioned former President John Dramani Mahama's commitment to fighting galamsey, citing past incidents and Mahama's 2020 promise to grant amnesty to imprisoned illegal miners.
Dr. Prempeh assured that the NPP remains dedicated to combating galamsey and will sign the anti-galamsey pact, highlighting the party's 2024 manifesto plans to address the issue.
He challenged the NDC to present their strategy for addressing galamsey and commit to the proposed pact, prioritizing Ghana's long-term interests over short-term political gains.
