Kwahumanhene resigns as ADB Board Chair amid extortion allegations

Accra, Ghana -  October 12, 2024 - Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) Board Chairman, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, has stepped down amid allegations of extorting $400,000 (GH¢2.4 million) from a customer.

Businessman Collins Darkwa petitioned the presidency, accusing Agyapong of demanding the funds in exchange for a GH¢12 million loan approval.

Darkwa claims Agyapong initially sought GH¢50,000 and later requested additional payments, threatening to obstruct his business if he didn't comply.

The resignation aims to shield the bank from reputational damage. As Kwahumanhene, Agyapong's departure sparks concerns about corruption in Ghana's financial sector.
