Kumasi and Obuasi to Host Captain One Golf Society's 8th Invitational Championship

Kumasi, Ghana - 14 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's golfing community is gearing up for the 8th edition of the prestigious Captain One Golf Society's Invitational Golf Championship, scheduled to take place from January 17-19 in the Ashanti Regional cities of Kumasi and Obuasi.

This year's tournament promises to be exciting, with a new format that includes a Footgolf Competition, a first-of-its-kind event in Ghana. The championship will be played on two courses, the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi and the Obuasi Golf Club, with the finals taking place at the latter.

According to the organisers, the introduction of Footgolf aims to encourage more people, including non-golfers, to participate in the sport. The tournament will also feature female golfers from the Captain One Kids Project, competing alongside amateur and professional golfers for the ultimate prize.

President of the Captain One Golf Society, Pius Ayeh Appiah, says the event promises to be keenly contested, with many golfers preparing to make a mark. The competition will also see a battle for bragging rights between the two host golf clubs.

"We intend to provide the same playing field for our young golfers to compete for glory. This would give them the exposure and experience needed to become great professionals," he stated.

"This year promises to be keenly contested as well as exciting as many golfers have prepared feverishly to make a mark.''

"We are ready to host another major golf event and call on sponsors to come on board to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in society since proceeds from the competition are dedicated to charity,'' he added.

Proceeds from the tournament will go towards charitable causes, and the organisers are calling on sponsors to support the event. Top golfers, including former winner Vincent Torgah and reigning champion Kwabena Poku, are expected to participate, along with rising star Ayisha Aminu, who has been nominated for the Sports Writers Association of Ghana's Discovery of the Year award.
