Government will publish list of public lands soon - Abu Jinapor
Ghana's Minister of Lands and Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor has announced that government intends to compile and publish a comprehensive inventory of all public lands in the country as part of its continuous efforts to guarantee openness and accountability in the management of the nation's resources.
He made the announcement at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
According to him, the move demonstrates the Akufo-Addo administration's dedication to protecting public lands from invasion and misuse.
“The Akufo-Addo government has been unwavering in its resolve to protect public lands. We are not only committed to preserving these lands but also to ensuring that the public is fully informed about their status. This is why we are in the process of compiling and publishing a detailed list of all public lands across the country,” he said.
His announcement follows recent claims made by North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who accused the government of engaging in state capture and illegally reallocating public lands to private companies.
These charges have raised public anxiety, prompting calls for greater transparency in state property management.
Jinapor categorically denied these allegations, labeling them as false and politically driven.
He emphasized that all transactions involving public lands have been performed with the utmost transparency, strict adherence to the law, and with the nation's best interests in mind.
He stated that the government is in the last stages of auditing all public lands to guarantee that none were improperly obtained or mismanaged. Once the audit is completed, the public will have access to a comprehensive list of public lands, as well as information on any transactions affecting public lands.
“The publication of this list will not only enhance transparency but also build public confidence in the management of our national assets. We are determined to show that this government has nothing to hide and that all public lands are being managed for the benefit of the people of Ghana,” he stated.
